FREELANCE GAFFER

POSITION SUMMARY:

Aurora Films is seeking a Freelance Gaffer. The Gaffer’s primary responsibility is to assist the Director of Photography with achieving the desired lighting look on-set. The Gaffer has extensive knowledge in lighting setups and gear, and an understanding of the full video production process from pre-production through post-production. They should be adaptable, resourceful, and must work well with others in a deadline-driven environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Execution and design of the lighting plan for a production

• Coordinate the entire job of lighting, given knowledge of the time of day and conditions to be portrayed,

• Managing resources including, lights, cable, and manpower

• Responsible for appropriate color gel and lighting effects

• Operating lifts following proper safety guideline and climbing ladders

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Experience on a video production set, specifically in the lighting department (5 years)

• Understanding light: have an artistic eye, know the techniques required to achieve different lighting effects and the kit needed to achieve them

• Electrical knowledge: have an in-depth understanding of power distribution, cables, lighting, and more

• An understanding of amperage

• Extensive Knowledge of video production gear and terminology

• Excellent verbal communication

• Personable and professional towards clients, vendors, and crew members

• Flexible schedule and the ability to work long and/or irregular hours in various conditions

• Stand, walk, and work on their feet for extended periods of time

• A valid drivers license and reliable form of transportation

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• High attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions

• Excellent organizational skills

• The ability to exercise judgement
